This quaint house dates back to the earliest days of the Graaff-Reinet district. It is the oldest house on the farm and was built around 1850. For decades it was the only lived-in building on the farm.
In the years since the main house was built, it served several purposes, including storage, being used as a small shop as well as housing the generator that supplied electricity to the farm.
In 2007 it was decided to restore the house to its previous state and make it habitable once again. We tried to keep the spirit of the interior as close to the original house as we could, adding to the cosiness of the cottage, especially in summer when it stays nice and cool even on hot days.
The peaceful surroundings offers lovely mountain views, braai facilities and a farm pool to swim in during the hot summer months. The cottage is fully equipped for self-catering for up to four people.
Schoeman’s Cottage is ideal for a refreshing overnight stop and as a relaxing base for a longer stay. If you bring enough food and drink, there’s actually no reason to ever leave.
