About Graaff-Reinet & the Farm
Graaff-Reinet, the 4th oldest magisterial district in South Africa is called the “Gem of the Karoo”. The town has long been justly renowned for its attractive and well-preserved historic homes and buildings, for which it has been widely acclaimed as one of the most visited towns in South Africa. Graaff-Reinet is virtually surrounded by the Camdeboo National Park, which is home to the world renowned Valley of Desolation.
The farm Waterval is about 32 kilometres outside Graaff-Reinet on the Erasmuskloof road; a winding gravel road slowly snaking along the Broederstroom river. It offers spectacular mountain views, but be warned: the terrain can be strenuous so drive slowly and rather enjoy the beautiful surrounds. We breed cattle, sheep and horses on Waterval. There’s also a fair amount of game roaming the open veld. Wateval is a paradise for anyone who loves to walk, climb mountains or do outdoor activities. The area is rich in fossils and anyone interested in the plants of the Karoo would find much to appreciate here. But mostly you come here for the tranquillity; the silence. It’s time to unwind and relax. Come to Waterval to experience the Karoo at its best.
